Cosmic Bowling
Time Change

Held May 9th at Doug Kent's Rose Bowling Lanes from 8  - 10 pm.  At a cost of $16.00 which includes: Pizza, Soda, and Unlimited Bowling you can't go wrong.  

This is a great opportunity to MEET and GREET Venturers and Explorers from other units.  Youth members invite your friends to join us for this fun night and to join your Venturing Crew or Exploring Post.

In order to participate, a potential member must be 14 years old and have graduated from the eighth grade OR be 15 years old and in any grade.

Venture Leader Position Specific Trg.
Saturday, May 17th, 8 am - 2 pm, cost is $7.00
Council Service Center on Pre-Emption Rd. in Geneva

This course is designed to introduce adult Venture crew leaders to the basic information needed to operate a crew.  This program includes information on the purpose and mission of Venturing, characteristics of Venture-age youth, organization and leadership of the crew, program planning and officer training, the new recognition program involving the Bronze, Gold, Silver, and Ranger Awards and more! 

If you are a registered Venturing leader and would like to participate on the Powderhorn course being offered this year you must have completed this training.

Eaton Mud Creek Canoe Race
Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Beginning at Swift's Landing County Park check -in time is 8:30 am with the race starting at 9 am.  This race is a relay with six stops along Mud Creek finishing at Norsen Bridge Park with a dish-to-pass picnic.  Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided you just bring a dish to pass.  Don't forget to bring your favorite lawn games.  Check out the brochure for all the details. 

Venture Leader Skills Course
Saturday, June 14th, 8:30 am - 4 pm, cost is $7.00
Lyons Rod & Gun Club on Leach Road in Lyons

The Venturing Leadership Skills Course is the first step a Venturer encounters on his or her journey toward leadership development.  This course is designed to be used by Advisors to teach leadership skills to all Venturers in the crew.  It has nine leadership modules that begin with an activity and follow with a reflection.  Completion of this course is a requirement for the Venturing Silver Award, and conducting the course is a requirement for the Venturing Advisor Award of Merit.

This course is for all members of your Crew.  Not just the Officers.

BSA Lifeguard Weekend

Held at Camp Babcock-Hovey, Friday, June 20 till Sunday, June 22, learn the skills necessary to be part of an Aquatics Staff.  

At a cost of $120 this camp features Rescue & Surveillance Skills, Safe Swim Defense & Safety Afloat, First Aid Training with Defibrillation training,  also learn about Bloodborne Pathogens

Friday, check in 5 to 9 pm till Sunday morning

Come help us celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Venturing.  We, the Finger Lakes Council of the Boy Scouts of America, will be hosting this event at Camp Babcock-Hovey in Ovid.  Any Crew, Ship, or Post is welcome to join us for the weekend.  There will be a cost of $20 per person for this event.  Look for registration packets in January.

High Adventure Week:

New this year, this camp held August 3 - 7 at Camp Babcock-Hovey in Ovid.   A Program for Co-ed Venturers and Boy Scouts ages 14-18.   

This camp features; Canoeing, Kayaking, Rowing, Swimming, Sailing, Motor Boating, Water Skiing, Primitive Camping, Hiking, High COPE elements, and a Beach Party. 

Interested in SEA SCOUTS?

   Finger Lakes Council has the exciting opportunity to return to the tradition of Sea Scouts.  A ship is currently organized in the Arrowhead District and is looking for any and all youth interested in joining. 
   Sea Scouts is open to girls and boys age 14 who has completed the 8th grade or age 15 and in any grade.  This program offers opportunities and challenges to anyone interested in fun on the water.

  A Council Wide Venturing/Exploring E-mail listing is being assembled.  Steve and Gordy are asking each unit to provide an e-mail address of one Adult Leader and one or two Youth members to the directory.  We’ll be using e-mail as a way to advertise events.  E-mail addresses can be sent to Lauren (lbrandt@fingerlakescouncil.org) or Steve (bafamz1@linkny.com) or can be submitted any number of ways.
