We Did It! If you've ever set a goal and it seemed to just elude your grasp, you can relate to everyone on the council and district committees. All during 2004, they reached for that gold ring -- Quality Council and Quality District -- only to see it slip away. The necessary membership numbers were the frustrating factor. Well! This undaunted group put on a full court press in the waning days of 2004, and guess what! We did it! We achieved Quality Council and two districts achieve Quality District. That means we made our membership goal, balanced the budget and met several other criteria. This photo shows Area President Bob Kernan presenting the award to
Scout Executive Bob Dorn, Council Commissioner Vic Lonsberry and Council
President Jim Tobin at the Youthpower Dinner.
Youthpower Dinner Held February 5 Our 35th anniversary Youthpower Dinner was held Saturday, February 5 at Club 86 in Geneva. At this gala fundraising dinner, David
Allman was honored with Scouting's National Medal of Merit for saving
his sister's life, and Senator Michael Nozzolio was honored with the
council's Distinguished Citizen Award. Click here for Youthpower Dinner photos. Send Money! It's time to pay the piper! We all had a fun-filled President's Day bowling strikes and earning cash. Now the Bowl-A-Thon money is due in the council service center. The deadline is March 9. Don't miss out on great prizes by being late with the cash. Two days after Bowl-A-Thon money is due, summer camp deposits are due in the council service center. To be sure you don't miss out on the early bird incentives, take your deposits to roundtable the night before. That way, you'll know it is in on time. Venturing/Exploring Cosmic Bowling Although the deadline is past, your crew or post may still be able to join in this fun event. Cosmic Bowling is from 9:30 PM til midnight Friday, March 11, at Starview Lanes, Route 14A, Penn Yan. The $13 fee includes pizza, soda and unlimited bowling. Bring your whole crew or post; bring friends who are 15 or older (or 14 and graduated from 8th grade). For information, call Steve Nawotniak at the council service center or Steve Wheeler at 607.243.8147. Trainer Development Conference Training is essential to be an effective Scout leader. Training needs trainers. And trainers need to be trained in how to train. That will take place Saturday, March 12 at Geneva Presbyterian Church. The deadline for registration has passed, and there are no walk-ins. But, if you want to learn how to be a trainer, call the council serice center and make reservations right away. The hours are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The $10 fee includes lunch, supplies and a training recognition. Jamboree Update Although the weather forced cancellation of the last National Jamboree committee meeting, plans are right on schedule. All we need is a few more Scouts to round out our troop. Talk it up in your unit. This tent city mysteriously appears at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia every four years. And, a week later it disappears for another four years. So, this may be some of your Scouts' only opportunity to experience Scouting's greatest adventure. You can get all the details by calling Steve Nawotniak at the council service center. Do it now so your Scouts can participate in jamboree training April 9. Catholic Committee on Scouting Adult Recognition Dinner The Rochester diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting will hold its annual adult recognition dinner Sunday, March 20, 3:00 PM at the Burgundy Basin Inn in Bushnell's Basin (No, you don't need a tour permit). Tickets are $20, and may be purchased at the council service center or from Tom Cimochowski (315.568.5687). |
