Distinguished Citizen Award Honorees for 2006
Bob Goodman - A man of many talents. Bob has been in construction all of his life. He started Goodman’s Custom Kitchens in Newark where he works part time even today. A lifelong resident of Newark, Bob is married to a wonderful wife, Lynn, and is the parent of 3 grown children (Kathy Zappia, Margie Wall and Robert Goodman). He is also the proud grandfather of 8. Bob has been involved for the last 39 years in Rotary. He has served in many capacities including past president, Polio Plus District Chairman, Area Director for Polio Plus and is a 4 time Paul Harris Fellow. Bob’s Rotary passion has been Polio Plus. It all began his senior year at Newark High School where as Student Council President he challenged his class to raise $1000 for Polio. His class met and exceeded that challenge. In 1986, Rotary Clubs everywhere decided to begin a campaign for the eradication of polio. The program, called Polio Plus has been near and dear to Bob and he has worked since its inception to raise funds. To date Polio Plus has raised over $500,000 from 67 clubs. By the end of this year, there should be no cases of polio in the world. Bob has been involved in several other projects and organizations in his community, including Camp Onseyawa where he has been involved for over 23 years. He is the Past Chairman of the New York Penn Blood Region Board of Directors. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the 1st Baptist Church as well as a moderator. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Monroe County Arthritis Foundation and was a founding member of the local Wayne County Branch.
James E. Doran - Distinguished is truly a word of description. Jim Doran is the Senior Vice President in charge of Project Management for FF Thompson Health System, Inc. He has been with the health system since 1992. Prior to that he was a banker for 33 years with Lincoln and Chase Banks. Jim is a very community minded individual, serving on several boards and committees, including, but not limited to: Board Member and Treasurer of Ontario County IDA, Member of the Ontario County Revolving Loan Committee, Board Member and Vice President of Wilcox Lane Senior Housing Development Corporation, Board Member of Canandaigua Cemetery Association, Advisory Board Member of the Finger Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America, Board Member and Vice President of the Canandaigua Area Development Corporation, Member of the Granger Homestead, Member of the Ontario County Historical Society, and if that is not enough, he was voted Mr. Canandaigua in 1991. He is very active in both the Chamber of Commerce and United Way, of which he is a past president. He is one of 13 children and has lived in Canandaigua his whole life. He is the proud husband of Patricia and father to the Honorable Craig Doran and Chris Doran. He is a grandfather of 3, with twin boys on the way.
Maureen (Moe) Koch - She's the 2005 Distinguished Citizen Award for Seneca County recipient. Maureen (Moe) Koch has been the Seneca County Tourism Director since 1996. Before that she was the Assistant Director of Sales and Marketing for the Holiday Inn, Waterloo from 1992-1996. From 1985-1992 she was a Sales Associate for WSFW Radio, formerly in Seneca Falls. From 1978-1985 she held management positions with Casual Corner in Rochester and JC Penney in Geneva. Moe grew up in Buffalo, NY, but her heart and spirit has been in love with Seneca County since 1969. Moe served as the President of the United Way of Seneca County where she is still very active. Moe has been a part of the community with her girls attending the school system including De Sales High School in Geneva. A former Brownie and Girl Scout leader, bowling enthusiast, downhill skier and hang glider, she now spends 14 thousand miles a year on the Harley Davidson Road King, touring with her fiancé Russ Young. She has 2 grown daughters Kimberly and Heather and 2 granddaughters, Kelly and Kathryn. Russ’ son Chris has just returned from Iraq and will be joining the Army Rangers in January
Marcia Dugan - A resident of Penn Yan and has spent 12 years of her early life in Havana, Cuba. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Antioch College in Ohio. She has worked as a research biochemist, a teacher of Spanish, and for 25 years in the public relations area, most recently as Director of Public Affairs at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). Marcia has shared her talents and skills through many professionals and community affiliations at international, national, state and local levels. Marcia serves as a member of the Keuka College Board of Trustees, the NTID National Advisory Group, and the board of the Antioch College Alumni Association. Nationally, she served as chairman of the steering committee for the Council for Better Hearing and Speech Month and the public relations committee of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf, as well as President of the board of trustees of Hearing Loss Association of America. Marcia lost her hearing at age 40, and is active in the field of hearing loss. She is the author of “Living with Hearing Loss”. She is the recipient of several awards “Focus of People Award”, “Howard E. “Rocky” Stone Humanitarian Award”, “Women of Excellence Award” to name a few. She is active in politics, as a member of the Yates County Republican Committee, past president of the Yates County Republican Women and a 7th Judicial District Past-President and in 1979 was named Yates County Republican of the Year. She is the widow of Judge Frederick D. Dugan, a former President of the Finger Lakes Council, BSA and an Eagle Scout.
